The Champions Tour has seen various big names on the PGA Tour continuing their legacy on the senior tour as well. Moreover, it is the dream of every professional to continue their passion for golf onto the Champions Tour.

However, among the big names who have played on the Tour, there is one with a story not less than that of a fairy tale. Mark Johnson, who is a senior tour player, prior to playing on the tour used to drive a beer truck for 18 years.

Johnson is a Californian native who prior to playing on the Champions Tour used to drive a beer truck. The American professional drove an Anheuser-Busch truck in the Mojave Desert for 18 years. He used to get up at 4:30 AM in the morning and deliver beer to bars, restaurants as well as packaging stores. However, the professional had made it through the Q-school even before turning 50.

He came back into the Q-school again in 2004 and even finished first. Mark also won on the Tour of Champions for the first time in 2005. He won the 2005 Toshiba Senior Classic at Newport Beach. Also known as the Hoag Classic. The 67-year-old professional darted a wedge from 89 yards and holed it for his win at the event.

The Beerman took a mere wedge in his hand. Hit the ball just short of the pin. It took one hop and went away from the hole and stopped. And then trickled back into the hole. As result, holing it out from the fairway and won his first Champions Tour event.

However, this is not the only time he won, he is also the 1996 California State Amateur Championship winner. And even finished as the runner-up to Tiger Woods in the 1994 Southern California Amateur. It surely teaches us no matter what, if you have the will, you can chase your dream. Truly, golf has no bounds.

Mark Johnson’s comments after his win

After making a hole-out from the fairway and winning the event, Johson spoke about his fairy tale journey and about his win. He said, “Pretty unbelievable.” “I’m living the dream.” He won the event with an overall score of 13-under-par and played some spectacular golf. It was a well-deserved win for the Beerman.
