Tiger Woods has won various tournaments in his long and illustrious career. The 15-time major championship winner also holds the joint record for most PGA Tour wins. However, there is just one professional which the 82-time PGA Tour winner would probably like to compete with, especially in the Dell Match Play, Nick O’ Hern. But, why?

What history does Tiger Woods have with Nick O’Hern?

The Match Play format can be bothersome when one is defeated by the same professional repeatedly, frustrating them. Something similar happened to Eldrick Woods at the Dell Match Play, which takes place in a Match Play format. Nick O’Hern is the only professional who has defeated Woods twice in it. The Australian professional defeated Tiger twice at the Dell Match Play in two different timelines.

Moreover, with the Dell Match Play coming up soon, let’s take a trip down memory lane and relive the rivalry between Nick and Woods. It is probably one of the fiercest ones ever seen in the Dell Match Play history.

Nick defeated Woods for the first time at the Dell Match Play in the year, 2004. Tiger came off a strong win against Nick Prise, with a comprehensive 4&3 win over him. However, the 15-time major championship winner then lost to O’Hern. The lefty Aussie professional defeated Woods with a 3&1 win at the event. Nick defeated Tiger in the second round of the event, and it was Nick’s only second appearance. He defeated Woods by just playing simple yet effective golf.

Trying to overcome an agonizing loss in 2004, Woods again lost to O’ Hern at the 2007 Match Play. This time the event took place at Dove Mountain, Tucson, Arizona. The match between the two rivals came up after Woods defeated J.J Henry 3&2 and Tim Clark 5&4. Nick and Tiger came face to face in the third round in 2007.

O’Hern was 4 up through seven holes. However, Woods fought back and the game was all square by 15 holes. Moreover, the Aussie was hungry for another win against him and went 1up through 17 holes. Tiger managed to sink in a birdie putt on the 18th hole to take the match to extra holes.

Woods had the opportunity to win the match on the first playoff hole. However, he missed the putt. Nick capitalized on the opportunity and won the match on the third playoff hole. He won the hole after draining a 13 feet putt for par.

Tiger’s latest PGA Tour event

Woods recently played at the 2021 PNC Championship. He featured in the event with his son Charlie Axel Woods. Moreover, the duo ended the event with an overall score of 25-under-par. As a result, came two shots short of the leaders. Team Woods carded a final round of 57, 15-under-par for the second position finish.
