Megan Khang Denied Entry to an Elite List as Chanettee Wannasaen Claims the $225,000 Portland Classic Title

The hype has reached an all-time high as the 2023 Portland Classic saw intense competition at the Columbia Edgewater Macan Course. Although the field of golfers was able to put up a close contest of sorts, only one player was able to reign supreme and clinch the title. Taking home the winner’s cut from the $1.5 prize purse is none other than 19-year-old Chanette Wannasaen.

As the world saw the tournament run its course, fans were on their toes as an edgy final round concluded with the teenager lifting the cup. The young athlete was able to push past favorite Megan Khang to mark her name in the annals of history.

In no less than a spectacular display of golf, the Thai professional managed to take home a winner’s cut of $225,000 from the total prize pool. As the fourth and final day came to a close, the golfer saw herself at the top of the scoreboard, pushing past the field of golfers who contested her for the No.1 spot from the start of the tournament.

The LPGA Tour pro emerged victorious as she beat the likes of Khang, Xiyu Lim, and the rest of the field. Wannasaen was able to make it a special win for her and enter the history books as she lifted the trophy. Moreover, she managed to deny Khang an entry into the list of golfers who made back-to-back victories in her LPGA career which includes golfing greats like Karrie Webb and Annika Sorenstam.

Wannasaen managed to script her third LPGA victory in Portland. One can’t help but look at the golfer in awe as she clinched her ninth professional win in her career. Moreover, she will be looking to carry the momentum forward in future tournaments as she relishes in her newfound success.

A special win for 19-year-old Wannasaen

The golfing star marked her third LPGA win at the 2023 Portland Classic. She topped the leaderboard with a score of 262 after scoring a spectacular 63 (-9) in the final round. Moreover, the golfer was able to clinch the title with a total of 7 birdies and an eagle on the fourth day. The win came off while she was just 19 years of age which makes it even more special for the young Thai athlete.

The emerging LPGA star boasts a total of eight professional wins under her belt, not including the recent one. She won two times on the Thai LPGA Tour in 2022 at the Singha Pattaya Ladies Open and the SAT-NSDF 5th Thai LPGA Championship while registering one win in the LET Access Series at Trust Golf Links Series – Ramside Hall the same year. The golfer had a spectacular year in 2022 as seven of her nine wins came in the year.
