Mel Reid has been far from her peak form lately. After having her firstborn child last November, she made her first appearance on the LPGA Tour this year at the LPGA Drive-On Championship. However, the best she could manage was a T49 finish. Since then, Reid has participated in two events, the Ford Championship and the JM Eagle LA Championship, but has unfortunately failed to make the cut in both. Now, however, things are looking up for Reid.

This week, the 36-year-old is competing at the Cognizant Founders Cup, and two rounds in, not only has she made the cut, but she is also in contention for the title! At 5-under 137, she’s 5th on the leaderboard, 8 strokes behind the leaders. And if all goes well over the next two days, she may just be able to grab her second LPGA win. For it, though, she’ll have to be one with every club in her bag!

Mel Reid’s choice of driver and irons

According to GolfWRX, the 2024 Solheim Cup Vice Captain uses the Titleist TSR 3 (8-degree) driver for the shots off the tee. Players benefit from the club’s precise speed and distance, increasing playability. Mel Reid uses it with the Fujikura Ventus TR Black 5 S shaft, which further increases the weapon’s stability. It is priced at $449. With it, so far, she has been able to achieve the 25th rank in 2024 on the Tour for average driving distance (265.69 yards).

Reid’s 3-wood is a Callaway Paradym Triple Diamond with a loft angle of 15 degrees and a lie angle of 14 degrees. Originally priced at $599.99, it is now available for $449.99 for the next few weeks on the official website. The club has massive weight savings, which gives it a higher MOI and increased forgiveness on the course. This helps in covering the maximum distance. She uses it with the Fujikura Ventura TR Blue 6S shaft. Additionally, she also has the same club with an 18-degree loft for her 5-wood, which she equips with the Fujikura Venturs TR Blue 7 S.

For the irons, she goes a little expensive with her choice, opting for the TaylorMade P770 (4-6) irons. Priced at $1299.99, they come in compact shapes, which are easy to carry around for tours. Their design aims to safeguard the ball’s speed and enhance its playability. She also carries the TaylorMade P7MC (7-9) Irons, which retail for $1399.99. They are known to give out exceptional precision and control on the course. Reid uses the Mitsubishi OTi 85 S shaft for her irons.

The 36-year-old LPGA Tour icon keeps the Titleist Vokey Spin Milled SM 9 (48-10F, 54-10S, and 60-04L) for her wedges, equipping them with the AeroTech SteelFiber 110 cw. These are also the preferred choices of top players like Justin Thomas, Jessica Korda, Cameron Smith, Max Homa, and Jordan Spieth. The club’s versatile grinds also helps players’ performance on the greens.

For a putting average of 32.13, Mel Reid uses the Scotty Cameron Tourtype Squareback 2 (SB-2) putter. The 34-inch golf club is an older model that used to retail for a whopping $2500 but has now been removed from the official website of the brand. Nonetheless, it has been Reid’s companion for holing in the balls.

She completes her kit with a Titleist Pro V1x ball, which is used by most of the PGA Tour and LPGA pros. She also has the Golf Pride Z-Grip Cord in her bag.
