The Pelican Club in Bellaire hosts an important golf match that isn’t part of either the PGA or the European Tour. On the 10th of December, the seventh edition of the exhibition series ‘The Match’ takes place in Florida. Four of the biggest PGA Tour stars will compete, split into two pairs. On one side, Tiger Woods pairs up with world No. 1, Rory McIlroy, to take on Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth.

Recently, Thomas and Spieth opened up about how trash talk wouldn’t work against their opponents. They stated that the other side had accomplished far too much to be belittled and taken lightly.

The four players sat down on Wednesday for a Zoom call. The fans expected to see a war zone with both teams firing shots at each other. But instead, they got a heart-warming interaction. The four revealed their admiration for each other over the call, with a few digs here and there.

Thomson mentioned that despite being a good trash talker, he could not do so against an opponent of such class. He said, “It’s kind of hard to trash talk them.” JT went on to say that the only thing Spieth and he could do ahead of the match was to acknowledge Woods and Rory’s accomplishments.

The duo’s strategy to take on Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy
He explained that if the pair were able to establish ahead of the match that Woods and Rory had “more majors,” “more FedEx Cups,” and “both have an airplane” then those things could not be used against the two friends. JT then said, “Let’s just get that out in the open that way we don’t get it used against us in our match.”

Spieth even suggested to JT that the two of them may have to switch up the usual way they go about things and said, “We might have to take the nice guy route, which isn’t normal for us.” He also acknowledged that Woods and Rory were both “quick and witty.”
