It is not a secret that the American professional golfer, Phil Mickelson, has had one of the most successful careers in the professional golfing world. His 57 worldwide victories, including six major championships, show how accomplished he is as a pro-golfer.

Like many other golfers, Mickelson also has a golf course designing company under his name. Notably, he has designed a few courses worldwide and earned money from them. However, unlike his golfing journey, where he has won almost all the titles he wanted, his journey as a course designer has not been smooth.

Mickelson had set a goal in 2007 for his design company. However, his dream has yet to be fulfilled, even though he set the target more than a decade ago.

The unfulfilled dream of Phil Mickelson

Setting up the golf course designing company, the multi-millionaire golfer didn’t have a dream to make it a full-time company. He only had a small target set for it. “Phil is only going to design about 10 golf courses,” Tim Ummel, the golfer’s agent at the time revealed

The agent also claimed that he plans to design an 18-hole golf course in the mountains of western North Carolina in 2007. Notably, even the developers had confirmed the news. “RiverRock will be his mountain course,” Tim Ummel had said then. ‘RiverRock’ was the 3,500-acre real estate development where Mickelson’s designing team had plans to build a golf course.

However, according to his company’s official website, he still hasn’t built a golf course in North Carolina. The website feature six golf courses that Mickelson’s team has built since its inception. According to the list, he has designed a course in Canada, two in China, two in Arizona, and one in California.  

Other famous golfers with successful golf course design companies

Although his target of 10 has yet to be fulfilled, Mickelson has built six courses, making him a successful golf course designers. However, he is not the only professional golfer who has been successful in doing so.

The Tour veterans, Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus, also have golf designing companies. In fact, the two had already built a couple of golf courses in the North Carolina area, before Mickelson started planning to build one. Notably, his professional rival, Tiger Woods, also owns a golf design company.
