LPGA Tour is probably the most competitive league in women’s golf. However, the Tour is still in its growth phase and has a lot of work to do before it reaches the PGA Tour level. Regardless, the quality of golf is not an issue. There are some incredible players like Nelly Korda, Lexi Thompson, Jin Young Ko, and many more. 

Yet, the LPGA Tour doesn’t get the credit or the viewership it deserves. Moreover, there are even issues from the organizers’ end, like irregular coverage or delay in the coverages, which restrict fans from following women’s golf. Recently, the new LPGA commissioner expressed her views on the same.

The LPGA Tour commissioner opens up about the lack of coverage issue

Mollie Marcoux Samaan, in August, became the 9th LPGA commissioner. She took over after Mike Whan, who had a successful 11-year stint as the Tour commissioner. In a recent interview with Golf Digest, Mollie opened up on various things, including the lack of coverage and what necessary steps will they be taking to avoid the same in the future.

“Obviously, sports is not great when there is tape delay,” said the LPGA commissioner, Mollie Marcoux Samaan. “People love watching our women play, whether there is tape delay or not. But our goal would obviously be to have as much live television as possible. A very small percentage of our broadcasts had tape delays.”

Moreover, she criticized people for focusing more on the issue, drifting away from reality. “I think people tend to focus on that more than what is the reality of what was the tape delays. Obviously, we’d like to have as much live television as possible. But broadcast television is a finite resource, and there’s a lot of competing interests for that. We have to continue to show our value and how meaningful and interested people are in our product.”

Deservingly so, the new LPGA commissioner, Mollie, believes in her product and wants to add value to take the LPGA Tour to greater heights. What do you think about her comments? Do you think she will deliver as promised?
