LIV Golf’s revered captain of Smash GC, Brooks Koepka, has been holding out hope for his patriotic dream. But now, as he trickled off the 6 auto spots, that dream is looking bleaker. However, one PGA Tour pro did benefit from it. Xander Schauffele secured his place in Team US for Ryder Cup 2023.

Xander Schauffele has his confidence shaken

The 29-year-old golfer has made tremendous progress since he turned pro in 2015. Even though the 2022-23 season did not bring any wins from the American golfer, he has a spectacular number of top-10 finishes. He also earned an auto position in the 2023 Ryder Cup with his performance at the BMW Championship at Olympia Fields. Xander Schauffele came very close to the $18 million reward at the Tour Championship as well. Sadly, he lost it to Viktor Hovland to finish in P2.

At the end of the playoffs, he said he would have to rebuild his confidence, going into the Ryder Cup next month. The 7-time PGA Tour winner admitted: “I’m going to have to rebuild that confidence come Italy and the Ryder Cup.”

Team Xander has been hard at work, trying to elevate his gameplay and profile. He shared, “Coming into the playoffs to sort of peak and play really well at the right time is important, and so I think we’re working on the right things.”

After the disappointing miss for the $75 million title grab, Schauffele’s confidence is a little shaken. After all, he was leading the final round for quite some time before Hovland delivered the awe-inspiring stroke on the 15th.
