The third major tournament of the year turned out to be historic with American golfer Wyndham Clark emerging victorious! In moments of such joy and delight, one tends to remember the special people in their life, and athletes are no different.

For the new champion, it is her mother he likes to remember in his moments of pride and honor! But there is one more special person in his life for whom this victory is special.

Just as he dedicated his victory to his beloved mother, he did not forget to mention his caddie John Ellis and why this victory is even more meaningful for him.

Wyndham Clark shares why his victory is special for Ellis

It seems that this is Clark’s year! Given how his 2022 season went, the golfer has shown tremendous improvement in his game, and it has shown. He won his maiden PGA Tour victory at Quail Hollow just a month ago, and now he is a major champion! Winning the second-oldest and one of the most difficult major championships is indeed a moment of sheer joy and pride for the golfer and his team.

After his win at Quail Hollow, he talked about the special relationship he shared with Ellis and what went down during his winning moments at the 18th. Ellis has seen all the successes and failures of Clark in their five seasons together.

During the press conference after his win on Sunday, he was asked about his relationship with Ellis. Embracing his relationship with him, he said that this tournament is just as “emotional” for Ellis as it is for the golfer himself.

Explaining why this win was special for his caddie too, he said,John lost his dad only a couple years ago, and obviously being Father’s Day, I hope this brings joy in his dad’s eyes and obviously to John.”

He referred to Ellis as his rock and heaped high praise on him. Along with dedicating the victory to Ellis’ father, he also dedicated his maiden major victory to his mother, who sadly passed away in 2013.

The 2023 US Open champion’s mom has played a significant role in his golfing life. She always used to encourage him to “play big,” no matter what the situation might be. Playing big has become the mantra of his life.

He shared how his mother was always proud of him, no matter what he did. He also shared that at this moment, he is confident that she is watching over him and is utterly proud of his achievement. Talking about how much he was missing his mother in the winning moment, he said he wanted to hug her and celebrate with her.
