Ian Poulter is one of the most prominent names in the golfing world. However, he is currently in a dilemma as the Saudi Golf League has approached the Englishman. Notably, it is believed if he decides to go with the breakaway league, then he could harm his place at the Ryder Cup, PGA Tour, and DP World Tour. 

Not to forget, Poulter is one of the captaincy candidates for the upcoming Ryder Cup. He was even a vice-captain in 2016. And hence he has a decent experience of leading the side. However, with Saudis making this lucrative offer of around $30 million to join their breakaway league, he could hurt his legacy at the PGA Tour and Ryder Cup.

Ian Poulter is in a dilemma as Saudis offer him $30 million

Ian Poulter has earned over $27 million in his career so far. And according to The Telegraph, he has received an offer of $30 million from Saudi to join their breakaway league. So if he accepts the offer, the Englishman will face a lifetime ban from the PGA and DP World Tour. Additionally, Poulter will also not be able to compete at the Ryder Cup, a tournament that saw him emerge as a prominent golfer on the circuit.

Moreover, he has earned the nickname Postman for his scintillating performance at the Ryder Cup. Hence, Ian Poulter now has a tough decision to make whether to opt for the $30 million or lead Team Europe in the future. Furthermore, Poulter’s good friend, Henrik Stenson, has also received an offer for the same.

Notably, even Stenson is one of the top contenders to captain Team Europe at the 2023 Ryder Cup. But for this to happen, he will have to decline the offer and stay loyal to the tour. Hence, both these players are in a quandary as they still can’t decide what exactly should they choose, given the Saudis league proposal is undoubtedly an offer difficult to turn down.

But then they will not be able to compete at the prestigious events again, barring a u-turn in official policy. Money or legacy, what do you think they will pick?
