Jordan Spieth is having a blast at the RBC Heritage

The official Twitter handle of the PGA Tour has shared the video of the beginning of the event, but there is a surprise. “Defending champion @JordanSpieth kicks off @RBC_Heritage with a bang.” In the video, the defending champion swings his club, and at the same time, a cannon next to him is activated. His shot equalled the bang of the cannon.

In 2022, Spieth made the putt when it was required the most despite his putter troubles. At the last hole at Harbour Town Golf Links on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, the PGA Tour pro sank a 10-foot birdie putt to finish with a 5-under 66 in the shadow of a 90-foot-tall, candy-striped lighthouse rising behind the 18th green. But this year, with his banging start, what do fans think?

Undoubtedly, the golf world reacted to it. There was sarcasm, there were jokes, and there was appreciation as well. Some of the reactions really stood out:

It was the 29-year-old golfer’s first PGA Tour championship as a father, and his 13th overall. Spieth’s wife, Annie, and son Sammy, ran onto the green to celebrate as a family when Patrick Cantlay’s 35-foot putt to extend the playoff went by. After the event, Spieth said, “I won this golf tournament without a putter.” And now the next edition of the event awaits. Will he be able to defend it?

Will the PGA Tour pro repeat history?

Spieth has played eight events this season, and there is no time for rest. His next event is the RBC Heritage at Harbour Town, where he is the defending champion. According to Golf Digest, Spieth is checking at 18-1 on the DraftKings Sportsbook, which represents some significant value for him in this prestigious competition. On the other hand, given how cognitively, emotionally, and physically exhausted he is, gamblers might want to go cautiously. Currently, his odds of winning are +1950.
