Robson’s voice was one that kicked off every Open Championship on the first tee box. He was the official starter at the tournament for 41 years. He carried with him a long legacy, witnessing legendary golfers like Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo, Tom Watson, and many more. The iconic voice behind the Open Championship passed away on Tuesday at the age of 83.

Tiger Woods pays tribute to the memory of Ivor Robson

Tiger Woods has been the Open Champion thrice and extended a heartfelt message for the departed soul. Taking to his Twitter account, he tweeted “Thank you Ivor for making each one of my Open starts so memorable.”

This simple tweet shows the value Robson held in the 82-time PGA Tour winner’s life. Woods is someone who keeps himself away from all the controversies and does not comment on the happenings in golf frequently.

The role played by 83-year-old Ivor Robson in his life led him to express his gratitude and respect for Robson’s memory and legacy. Tiger also reposted the video posted by the Open’s official Twitter channel.

The video was a montage of clippings from over the years in which he can be heard announcing the names of legendary golfers on the first tee. It was a homage to his legacy built in 41 years of service to The Open.

He was popular and well respected among all golfers who played in The Open, and I know that they will share in our sadness at the news,” said the R&A CEO, Martin Slumbers, who then extended his regards to Robson’s wife.

He added, “On behalf of all of us at The R&A, I would like to convey our heartfelt condolences to his wife of 61 years, Lesley, and the Robson family.
