‘My Heart Is So Sad’: LPGA Hall of Famer Pens an Emotional Note to Her ‘Captain’ and Demised Legend Kathy Whitworth

The golf world is mourning the loss of golf goddess Kathy Whitworth as she recently passed away at the age of 83. Numerous fans and golfers have expressed their thoughts on the heartbreaking news on social media and extended their support to the family of the golfing great. Former professional golfer Nancy Lopez also penned an emotional message on social media to remember her ‘captain’.

Along with Annika Sorenstam, Nancy Lopez is also hailed among the most successful golfers of all time. As a golf legend herself, Lopez possesses a great deal of respect for Kathy Whitworth, who recently left the world on Christmas Eve. And to honor the great golfer, Lopez shared an emotional message on Twitter in Whitworth’s memory.

“My heart is so sad that we have lost a true Legend, Kathy Whitworth,” she wrote. “She was so supportive when I was a rookie on the LPGA tour…my Captain in the first Solheim Cup. She meant so much to golf and fellow players. Rest In Peace Kathy. You will be missed.”

Lopez met Kathy Whitford numerous times on the LPGA Tour. Therefore, she felt the necessity to honor the great golfer as a professional and also as the former captain of the U.S.A team.

Well, Lopez is not the only one who is shaken by the golf star’s sudden demise. Many famous golfers are sending their condolences after Whitworth’s death on social media. And among them was famous retired golfer Annika Sorenstam, who expressed her feelings about Whitworth’s loss through Twitter too.

Former professional golfer and an old friend of Whitworth, Annika Sorenstam also came forward to pay her condolences after the golf star’s death. Like most other players, Sorenstam also wrote a heart-touching message about Whitworth on Twitter.

“We are very sorry to hear about the sudden passing of Kathy,” she tweeted. “As the LPGA‘s all-time wins, leader, and a total class act, she will be dearly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and close friends. Thanks for setting the bar so high, Kathy. RIP”

The world is still trying to cope with the emotional misfortune of losing one of the greatest players of all time. While she was in her prime years on the LPGA Tour, Whitworth scored 88 tournament victories. And no one in the PGA or LPGA Tour could match her record at the time. The golf legend also had 181 top-two finishes, giving tough competition to the winner.
