‘My Mom Loves It’: When Tiger Woods Got Real About His ‘Underestimated’ Secret Love

Tiger Woods is considered god-like when it comes to golf, and rightfully so. The legend has a long list of accomplishments and awards. But there are small heartwarming moments at times when the world is shown how human Woods is. The 82-time PGA Tour winner once extended his fanbase to all comic lover out there, when he revealed how people underestimated his “level of enjoyment for comics.”

Tiger Woods loves the Marvel and DC universes

In an interview before ‘The Match’ in 2018, Woods was asked what his most underappreciated skill was. While many expected the golf legend’s answer to be something on the course, he got personal with it. Woods went on to reveal something that humanized the 15-time major winner. He said, “[People] probably underestimated my level of enjoyment for comics.”

Tiger then went on to open up about his love for comic books. He said, “I grew up trying to save my savings from gambling on the golf course or my paper routes and all those different things to buy comics.” Woods added that he enjoyed reading them and that he loved the Marvel and DC universes.

The 82-time PGA Tour winner also revealed how everyone close to him knew this about him and that it may have been in his blood. He said that he wasn’t the only one in his family who loved comics either, and explained, “My mom loves it; she keeps more up to date than I am.”

It certainly wasn’t how any fan would picture the golf G.O.A.T. and his mother spending their free time, reading comics together.

What is ‘The match’?

The Match is an exhibition event in golf that features professional golfers or athletes facing off against each other. The first ‘The Match. was played in 2018, where Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods faced off against each other.

This year will see the seventh edition of the series. And again, Woods is supposed to be a part of it. It’s to begin this week at the Pelican Golf Club in Florida. Tiger Woods pairs up with Rory McIlroy, facing off against Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas.
