NBA legend Charles Barkley will be attending the Ryder Cup

At the moment Woods is too happy enjoying his role as a director on the PGA Tour’s board. And while he might be off the green due to his injury, Woods has been outdone in showing patriotism by his once-friend Charles Barkley. Besides basketball, NBA legend Barkley has an extreme love for the game of golf. Now retired from basketball, there was a time when Barkley and Woods used to be good buddies but according to the former, Tiger ended the friendship just like that.

But Chuck’s love for golf hasn’t altered. Last week he attended the Tour Championship, the finale for FedExCup playoffs. There he met Rory McIlroy and even pulled his leg after making queries about his ailing back. When McIlroy replied that he was fine, Barkley said, “You got your speed up on one of these drives today. So I think you’re lying.”

After some more chit-chat, the NBA player wished McIlroy luck for the Ryder Cup to which McIlroy, who will represent Team Europe, asked twice: “You mean that?” Barkley answered with confidence: “I really mean that. Hey, I don’t pull for teams, I pull for guys like yourself.” Plus he added, “I will see you there.”

Woods gave up friendship with Barkley to save his marriage

Barkley met Woods through mutual friends many years ago. Charles, Michael Jordan, and Woods used to hang out and share a great bond. But Woods’ personal life disrupted the trio’s friendship in 2009 and Barkley accused Woods of ghosting him.

In an old interview, the basketball Hall of Famer said that he would have understood had Woods, who was trying to get back with his wife at the time, had called him and explained the situation that his wife had requested to get rid of all his friends. He said: “I just wish he would have been man enough to call and say that. To just disappear was disappointing.”
