NBA legend Kobe Bryant died in a helicopter crash at the age of 41 three years ago. The whole sports industry mourned, and Jon Rahm was one of them. He wanted to ask Kobe the question he was struggling to find answers to. Unfortunately, Rahm never got the chance. 

Bryant’s demise sent shockwaves across the sports community. As a result, the final-round coverage of the 2020 Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines was heavily focused on the heartbreaking news. CBS even caught Tiger Woods’ live response on tape when he was notified of the incident by caddie Joe LaCava right after his round. However, with the unexpected news, the legendary golfer, who had a close relationship with the legendary L.A. Lakers player, could only utter an exasperated “excuse me?”

However, Rahm finally revealed his true feelings about Kobe and his untimely death. The Spanish golfer had a one-on-one interview with Matt Barrie for Sports Center, ESPN. They discussed fatherhood, Kobe Bryant, and a specific errant tee shot at the ’22 PGA Championship. In the interview, the golfer explained how he came to know about Bryant’s death. He learned the news from his wife Kelley as he entered the scoring area at Torrey Pines on that Farmers Sunday in 2020. Let’s find out what Rahm said.

The PGA pro said he always admired the basketball legend for his renowned “Mamba mentality” work ethic. However, the thing that affected Rahm most was his parenting skills. Bryant was known for juggling parenting and continuous brilliance in his sport. The Spanish golfer was primarily hoping to discuss parenting skills with the 18-time NBA All-Star.

The 2020 Farmers Insurance Open’s Tuesday post-event meeting with Kobe Bryant was something the former world’s best golfer was looking forward to. With a heavy heart, Rahm said, “I wanted to ask Kobe, how the heck did he practice the way he did and still have the impact he had as a father with his daughters.”

The pro golfer wanted to be a good father. The Memorial Tournament winner wanted to learn how to be a good reference for his kids. “That’s what I wanted to know because, in golf, you can play up until you’re 60 … I wanted to make the most out of what I can do on the golf course and off the golf course.” Rahm added sadly, “I guess I’ll never know his answer.”

The golfer is the father of two kids. And lately, he has been spending much time on the golf course. He wanted to set an excellent example for his kids but also wanted to succeed as a golfer. The way Bryant was balancing. However, he lost the opportunity to meet his idol. Besides that, this week was terrific for Rahm as, despite scrutiny, he won the American Express on Sunday for his fourth win in his last six starts, along with the Sentry Tournament of Champions last week.
