The women’s NCAA March Madness tournament is touching all-time high viewership numbers and is smashing the chart left and right this year. According to the numbers, the women’s Elite Eight round of the tournament drew 2.2 million average viewers, which was a tournament record for ESPN and 42% higher than what it was in 2022. Paige Spiranac tweeted about how she thinks March Madness has been cool to watch this year. She thinks it’s nice that even women’s sports are gaining equal attention as that of men and social media is to be thanked for this. Spiranac, found this season of March Madness to be dynamic, filled with drama, and most importantly fun.

Her tweet instantly grabbed the attention of fans and people did not shy away to express their opinions on the same. Many fans agreed with Spiranac and simply loved watching women rock in college basketball.

A user commented, “Yea, it’s been fantastic….I was late to the party, but sold!” whereas another one said, “Agreed. I never watched a woman’s game til that Iowa SC Final 4 game. It was entertaining.” Another user took the comment section and said that it is sad to see people comment on the sportsmanship of the players, “it’s been great! shame tho many are talking about lack of sportsmanship.” There were several positive reactions. “Little by little, it’s getting there” 

Many users were fond of the game but did not like how the referees dealt with the game. People did not shy away from commenting on it. One user replied to the tweet, “Until the refs ruined it.”, the other said, “Too bad those refs set women’s bball back 10 years. Way to ruin the biggest stage they’ve ever had.” One user commented, “The first women’s game I’ve ever watched and I cut it off in the second quarter because the refs were so atrocious. Just googled to see who won. It’s a shame but that was awful.”
