

The women’s NCAA March Madness tournament is touching all-time high viewership numbers and is smashing the chart left and right this year. According to the numbers, the women’s Elite Eight round of the tournament drew 2.2 million average viewers, which was a tournament record for ESPN and 42% higher than what it was in 2022. Paige Spiranac tweeted about how she thinks March Madness has been cool to watch this year. She thinks it’s nice that even women’s sports are gaining equal attention as that of men and social media is to be thanked for this. A user commented, “Yea, it’s been fantastic….I was late to the party, but sold!” whereas another one said, “Agreed. I never watched a woman’s game til that Iowa SC Final 4 game. Many users were fond of the game but did not like how the referees dealt with the game. People did not shy away from commenting on it. One user replied to the tweet, “Until the refs ruined it.”, the other said, “Too bad those refs set women’s bball back 10 years. Way to ruin the biggest stage they’ve ever had.” One user commented, “The first women’s game I’ve ever watched and I cut it off in the second quarter because the refs were so atrocious. Just googled to see who won. It’s a shame but that was awful.”
