­Since 2018, ‘The Match’ has been hosting a series of exhibition golf matches, pitting major professional golfers or notable athletes against each other in a head-to-head competition. The format of the event has changed over time, with three out of five iterations employing a best-ball format, wherein professional golfers are paired with American football quarterbacks or, in some instances, basketball players.

For 2023, The Golden State Warriors duo, consisting of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, will face off against the Kansas City Chiefs’ superstars, Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce.

Fans react to the ‘The Match’ announcement 

On June 29, the 12-hole golf game will be held at Wynn Las Vegas during nighttime. Thompson and Kelce are the debutants this year. Mahomes and Curry, who have each won two MVP awards in their respective leagues, have participated in the golf tournament before.

The players of the match were announced and as it turns out, it did not make the fans joyous. The announcement was shared on Instagram and fans left comments stating that they were not happy with the player selection.

A fan posted a comment asking about the pros in the game, “Why no pros? I don’t care about watching these guys play mediocre golf.”

A fan suggested that this is the time to say goodbye to the event, “The Match has officially run its course. Time to retire this event.”

A fa suggested that it should have been LIV vs PGA, “Should be Rahm, Scheffler vs. Koepka, Gooch. Or any kind of LIV vs. PGA matchup.”

Another fan suggested that Mickelson would have been a good choice, “They don’t want @PhilMickelson because he’s killing it right now and would embarrass these guys.”
