How many events has Nelly Korda played in the 2024 season? Five. How many has she won so far? Four. Incredible, to say the least, and legendary behavior of the 25-year-old nonetheless. And to add more to her flawless run at the LPGA Tour 2024 season, Korda is once again in contention.

Yes, at the first major of the year, currently underway at The Club at Carlton Woods, Korda has taken the solo third spot after the conclusion of the third round. She is only one stroke away from taking the lead, which Atthaya Thitikul and Jin Hee Im hold. Currently. Korda has undoubtedly surpassed the expectations that were placed on her.

From making a double bogey in her third round to quickly taking the birdie on the next, the 1x major winner scored 7 under 67 to be far away from the threatening cutline that would have obstructed her consecutive win run. Korda’s stellar comeback from going winless for 14 months to winning 4 consecutive events is a story that will be remembered for years to come.

Many players, like former world no. 1 Lexi Thompson, 15-time LPGA Tour winner Jin Young Ko, world no. 4 Minjee Lee, 1-time major winner Celine Boutier, and rising rookie Rose Zhang on the LPGA Tour, missed the 2-over cutline. Indeed, the LPGA Tour’s cover girl is in a league of hers, and no one is even closer to entering it yet. The Chevron Championship is proof if anyone ever doubted it. Even the fans are vying for her to win.

The 25-year-old is closer to winning her second major title at the Chevron Championship, and though the feat in itself is huge, Korda, if she wins, will also be writing her name in the LPGA Tour record books to match two legendary players of the women’s league.

What would the Chevron Championship victory mean for Nelly Korda?

After 18 years, Nelly Korda will become the first player to tie the record for the most consecutive victories taken by only two players on the LPGA Tour: Nancy Lopez in 1978 and Annika Sorenstam in the 2004–05 season. She will become by far the best golfer of the 2024 season, taking strides and making historical records.

However, Korda isn’t letting these things get to her head. Although it will be a massive boost to her career, the 25-year-old explained, “I’m so in the present that I don’t let myself think about that too much. I feel like that just comes with a little bit more added pressure.” But Korda was appreciative of the love she has been receiving from her younger fans.

“Obviously, there is nothing better to me than seeing all the little kids come out and say that I inspire them to pick up a golf club or that I’m their favorite golfer,” she said. So, regardless of what may be the result of the Chevron Championship, Korda is steadfast on one goal. She added, “Hopefully, I do get to inspire the next generation with the love that I have for the game, and hopefully they have it too.”

Nelly Korda has already won everyone’s hearts with her fantastic performance on the greens and humble mannerisms off the course. Whether she wins or not, the fans are always rooting for the 25-year-old!
