A couple of months ago, golf returned to the Olympics in Tokyo. USA’s Nelly Korda won the gold medal for her country, earning praise and appreciation from all around the world. Safe to say, the young golfer has enjoyed life in 2021, even currently ranked as World No. 1 in the sport. However, how Korda keeps her gold medal might be another cause of concern altogether.

Korda’s gold medal has earned her unimaginable recognition, also helping boost female golf. However, only 23-years-old, Korda has a long way to go, with her peak probably not even here yet.

How is Nelly Korda carrying her gold medal around?

During an interview, Korda revealed she has taken the gold medal all around the world with her. Surprisingly, she has no special case for it. “I actually didn’t even have a case for it so I just had it like – it was pretty much like in a sock,” Korda added.

Of course, Korda does not want to scratch her precious medal, so it went into a sock. “Once I got to the States I – every single time I went through security I got stopped and I was like, Okay, just be really careful with it when you pull it out. Don’t scratch it.”

A small summer project

Korda spoke about the other trophies she owns as well, which are apparently a little disorganized for now. “So I actually I haven’t received the KPMG trophy yet, but I have an office area in my condo that I keep all my trophies,” she said. “It’s a little unorganized right now, but that’ll be one of my off-season projects.”

Korda last played and won the Pelican Women’s Championship in a difficult outing against Lexi Thompson. The battle was so fierce, Korda even ended up frustrated at a point where fans saw her venting.

“You didn’t want to know what I was saying from the 18 tee box to the 18 iron shot,” Korda said, adding that she had the ‘F bombs’ flying around. “I think it was good that I kind of got it out, that anger out, because I was very angry after 17. I thought I lost it there”.

This makes it Korda’s seventh LPGA Tour win, having joined the LPGA Tour in 2017. Her next event will be the CME Group Tour Championship, being held at the Tiburon Golf Club – Gold Course from November 18th onwards.
