It is not a secret that Phil Mickelson is an extremely talented golfer and is considered one of the best of all time. His 50+ championship titles, including several majors and World Golf Championships, prove it. Interestingly, he doesn’t just excel in being good at golf but in being a better person as well.

The golfer and his wife, Amy Mickelson, have set up a Foundation to help people in need. The Mickelson family always believed in giving back to the community, and the story of how the golfer helped the former pro football player, Conrad Dobler, is proof of it.

Mickelson’s good deed made the Dobler family happy

Conrad Dobler earned the name ‘NFL’s dirtiest player’ during the ten seasons he played pro football from 1972 to 1981. The 72-year-old had once played as the guard for St. Louis Cardinals, New Orleans Saints, and Buffalo Bills. After retirement, he and his wife, Joy, lived happily off from a business they set up that supplied medical staffing to local hospitals.

However, the family faced a crisis when his wife fell off a hammock in 2001 and became a quadriplegic. Notably, Dobler was also experiencing some medical conditions at the time. The medical bills were more than enough to break the family down.

“Phil wanted to pay for our daughter Holli’s college education,” Dobler said how Mickelson’s lawyer once called him and gave him the proposal. “A random act of kindness is the only way to describe it,” he explained how much Mickelson’s deed meant to his family. “Holli’s a sophomore at Miami of Ohio, the school of her choice, because of one person: Phil Mickelson.”

Interestingly, Dobler didn’t personally know Mickelson when the golfer wanted to help his family. All he knew was he had been playing professional golf and making a lot of money. According to the interview Dobler gave in 2007, he has yet to talk to the 6-time major champion. “Never even met Phil, never even talked to him,” he said. “Although I would like to, for obvious reasons.”
