Peyton Manning might be considered one of the greatest quarterbacks of this generation. However, in the golf world, the NFL Hall of Famer is popular to be a talented player of the 18-hole sport. While he has remained loyal to golf, considering it a hobby, Manning has exciting news for his fans in Denver and it has more to do with golf than football.
The retired quarterback has been displaying his golfing attributes to the world during his outings at two editions of ‘The Match’. While he won alongside Tiger Woods, defeating the team of his long-time rival Tom Brady and Phil Mickelson, he was on the losing side with Stephen Curry while defending his title against Mickelson and Charles Barkley later in 2020.
Though he may have tasted defeat on the golf course, the elder Manning brother did earn the respect of the golf world. And with that admiration for the quarterback, Peyton will now serve in a high-profile role at the US Amateur Championship.

Though the two-time Super Bowl winner spent 14 years in Indianapolis with the Colts, Peyton spent the last four seasons of his two-decade-long career in the city of Denver. Instead, Peyton Manning is set to serve as the honorary chair for the U.S. Amateur Championship at Cherry Hills Country Club in Denver. Following the United States Golf Association’s announcement, the 47-year-old expressed his joy about the high-profile role. “I am honored”, said Manning in a statement.
The Hall of Famer further added how he has “great enthusiasm for not only the game of golf, but also for competitive athletics”. Peyton ended with again reiterating his excitement about the upcoming Amateur event and bringing new amateur players into the state of Colorado.
The 123rd U.S. Amateur Championship is to be held at Cherry Hills and is scheduled for August 14–20. Peyton Manning’s former ‘The Match’ opponent Phil Mickelson won the Amateur event in 1990. With the state of Colorado set to host its 35th overall USGA Championship, it will be in the safest hands that the city of Denver has ever known, Peyton Manning.
While the elder Manning brother may have the best anticipation when it comes to throwing a football, how good is he with his golf shots?

While Tom Brady may have more rings on his fingers than his long-time rival and friend Peyton Manning, he still isn’t able to outshine the Sheriff in the 18-hole sport. Brady holds a golf handicap index of 8.1. As Manning looks to enjoy his retirement career more, he might attempt to enhance his golf handicap.
