After a week of scintillating action, the Memorial Tournament has finally come to a close. While the event concluded with intriguing playoff action, there were a few funny moments off the course as well.

Those included world number one Scottie Scheffler’s time in the studio, where he chatted about his golf campaigns with sports commentator Tony Romo. Furthermore, the golfer even confessed to a circulating rumor around the two, which resulted in a few giggles around the room.

The 2022 Masters champion had a successful stint at the Muirfield Village Golf Club, but he was equally impressive behind the mic. In one instance, Scheffler was asked to clarify the rumor mills regarding his golf battles with former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and now-sports broadcaster Tony Romo, which he agreed were real.

But is Romo at a loss in his wars with Scheffler? Professional golfer-turned-analyst Colt Knost dug his heels into the topic. “Rumor has it you’ve been beating Tony Romo so bad on the golf course, CBS is actually signing his check over to you. True or false?” he asked, which invoked laughter from Scheffler.

Indeed, the two have been sharing quite a rivalry so far. “I will say last time I played golf with Tony, he did beat me, so shout out to Tony for that. He didn’t beat me in stroke play, but he did take some money off me,” he said. With the pleasantries aside, Scheffler tore apart his deal with Romo and claimed he had quite a few checks left for him.

“I was able to give him one of his checks back that he had given me before. So he was pretty frustrated with that, but… I’d kept it in my little pouch there for about four or five months. So I was able to give him his check back, which definitely upset him after the win,” he said with a smirk.
