The WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play enters its final stage ahead of Sunday’s matches. Played in a World Cup-style format with group stage games preceding the knockout phase, merely two of the top 10 players have made it to the semi-final stage. Among them is the crowd favorite, Scottie Scheffler, who is the defending champion at the tournament. Being a fellow Texan, he has received eternal support at the Austin Country Club, alongside special cheering from one of the Longhorns’ favorites.

Scottie Scheffler receives love from Longhorns player

Currently holding the number one spot in the world rankings, Scheffler was deemed as one of the favorites to lift the WGC Austin title. He hasn’t looked back yet, with exceptional displays so far in the tournament.

Indeed, Scheffler has received a massive advantage with the home crowd cheering his name. The 26-year-old had a tricky pre-quarter final against J.T. Poston, where he came from behind to par on the 18th hole to secure victory.

Among the first to congratulate Scheffler on his victory was 21-year-old talented running back, Bijan Robinson. A member of the Texas Longhorn Football Team, Robinson won the Doak Walker Award as the nation’s best running back last year.

He is amongst the most talented football players around, with a move to the NFL considered imminent. But above all, Robinson is a Texan at heart as he walked across the golf course for the first time to cheer for Scheffler. The duo also shared an embrace and wished each other the best in their future endeavors.

Evidently, fans went berserk at the Longhorns’ link-up. Some users crowned Robinson as a “FUTURE EAGLE,” while others argued that the 21-year-old is following in the steps of Scheffler. “One of them is a legend, the other might become one,” a user said.  Others praised the upcoming talent for his friendly nature, tweeting, “Seems like genuinely good dude.”

Scheffler had his breakthrough season last year, where he won four PGA Tour titles in a span of six games. The extraordinary run also featured a Masters win, his first-ever major championship victory.

But the New Jersey-born has elevated his performances by a notch this season. Scheffler successfully defended his inaugural PGA Tour title, the WM Phoenix Open. He secured his second victory of the season at the Players Championship earlier this month.
