The Tiger Woods effect is real! The 48-year-old parted ways with Nike at the start of this year, ending a 27-year-long partnership. More recently, the American golfer announced his new clothing line, Sun Day Red. But it looks like this new brand from Woods has affected Nike deeply.

In recent reports, the clothing brand is looking to make major layoffs, cutting more than 1,500 jobs! The clothing brand sent out a company email on Thursday night about this decision. This major layoff represents about two percent of the brand’s total workforce. While the news is devastating for many workers, golf fans think there is a Woods connection to it.

In early January, Nike layoff rumors were spreading under its $2 billion cost-cutting plan. When the speculations about the Nike-Woods split started, it affected the Nike share price substantially. After Woods’s announcement, the share price fell by approximately $20 per share. A month later, the news is again catching some attention. However, the clothing brand has yet to confirm the actual reason for this mass layoff.

In the meantime, Tiger Woods is donning his Sun Day Red apparel for the 2024 Genesis Invitational. The 48-year-old announced his new brand on February 12 under the umbrella of TaylorMade. However, the verdict of the fans towards his new brand is still developing.

Tiger Woods’s Sun Day Red: A hit or a flop?

Before his 2024 season starts at Riviera Country Club, the 48-year-old revealed his new brand. Along with that, the brand showcased the famous red shirt and a pair of black hoodies with the Sun Day Red logo. Sun Day Red will embody a love of playing and competing, and we are for people who share those values, whether it’s on the course or in life,” Woods said in a statement. While the American golfer has a clear vision in mind for his new brand, the golf fans are still on the ropes.

The logo and designs both received negative feedback from the golf community. The logo is a leaping white tiger with 15 stripes, representing the 15 major wins of the 48-year-old. But all these nuances have failed to impress fans, who have called the design ugly.

Despite all this, Tiger Woods has declared that he no longer wants to be associated with Nike. During the press conference for the 2024 Genesis Invitational, the 48-year-old said he has moved on from the iconic TW logo from Nike. “I don’t want it back. I’ve moved on,” said the 48-year-old.
