John Daly is among the professionals who vocalize their concerns. The two-time major championship winner proved that he stands against undesirable rules being set by the USGA. Long John raised his voice back in 2021 against one such ruling and supported fellow professionals.

John Daly extends his support to Phil Mickelson

Golf rules can sometimes make the sport difficult to play, frustrating the professionals. USGA came out with one such ruling. Back in 2021, the word was in the golf world that the USGA and R&A are reducing the maximum driver shaft length from 48 inches to 46 inches.

However, various professionals did not like the idea and outrightly opposed it. Among the group of professionals were probably two of the most famous, John Daly and Phil Mickelson.

Phil made a tweet saying, “Word is USGA is soon rolling back driver length to 46inches. This is PATHETIC.1st it promotes a shorter more violent swing (injury prone,) doesn’t allow for length of arc to create speed…”

Moreover, Long John quickly came to the support of Phil Mickelson. It shows that professionals will not stand back from raising their voices.

Daly extended his support to Phil in the USGA ruling fiasco through his Twitter account. He made a Tweet from his account saying, “I totally agree with you brother but why don’t they just change the cheapest thing made in golf. NO common sense!” 

These words from Daly sound a bit odd because the fame he received in the golf world was due to his long-distance off-the-tee.

However, this is not the only time Daly has had an issue with USGA. In 2018, he refused to play any USGA events as he was denied using a golf cart due to medical reasons. At the US Senior Open.

Daly’s finish at the Hoag Classic

On the business end, John did not have the finish that he was looking for at the Hoag Classic. The 55-year-old professional ended the event with an overall score of five-over-par. Therefore, finishing at tied for 59th finish. He carded a final round of even-par, 71 in the final round of the event.
