With the Solheim Cup now over, it is time for the much-heralded Ryder Cup to take place. Besides, it is one of the much-anticipated tournaments on the men’s golf circuit, and the golf world eagerly awaits the event to tee off on Friday on the Roman course. All eyes, of course, will be on the European side, which is looking for redemption.

With the anticipation of Europe’s win arises the question: if they do find it, how will the team commemorate it? After all the last time they won, the then captain took to keeping the memory with him for life. This time, however, the English captain will clearly not be following in his footsteps as he turns down all hopes for an uncanny “tattoo” ask!

The European captain defies a strange plea ahead of the international face-off

Europe last saw success under Thomas Bjørn’s captaincy in 2018. That year, Team Europe defeated the USA with a major difference in score, where Europe stood at 17.5, while the USA was at 10.5. Along with the memory etched into their minds, Thomas undertook an uncanny way to celebrate and got the score, along with the image of the trophy in between, imprinted on his skin forever too!

Since then, Europe hasn’t won, and this season is a great opportunity for the European warriors to bring the cup back home. Hence, the team is already gearing up for the preparations. Ahead of the final showdown, Luke Donald joined in an interview where he was asked whether he’d undertake Bjørn’s way of celebrating if his team wins this year.

His blunt answer to the question, however, discouraged the hopes of all who had hoped he would get a tattoo. Donald said, “No guarantees on the tattoo. I certainly don’t have any on my body, just to let you in. But I’m sure we can find a suitable way to celebrate if it goes our way on Sunday.”

Luke Donald will lead his team to the Roman course this week. However, while his team looks to replicate Bjørn’s incredible feat, the lack of experience in the ranks could certainly be a hindrance. And especially with one name missing, a.k.a., that of Sergio Garcia, whose multiple efforts to grab his spot were turned down, fans can’t help but wonder if a win is in the books!

Sergio Garcia’s Ryder Cup revival attempt gets jilted cold-bloodily

While all the golfers paid their fines under fear, it was Sergio Garcia who defied the warnings and didn’t pay the fine (£100,000) even after resigning from the DP World Tour earlier this year. But the player had a sudden epiphany recently that his blasphemy (leaving the DP World Tour) had caused him to give up on his patriotic dreams (Ryder Cup participation) as well. Hence, the golfer made a last-ditch effort to regain his place.

Garcia, who had been part of the European Ryder Cup Team for the last 10 editions with a career record of 25-13-7 and secured 28.5 points over his last Ryder Cup appearances, undertook a final bid to save his seat to Rome. He offered a hefty fine of £700,000 as a total of all the outstanding fines for the DP World Tour. But, in reply, the Tour sharply turned him down, and he will not be able to be reinstated until next year.

Now Europe heads to Italy without Garcia in its ranks, and whether they can still win without him, only time will tell!
