While relatively lesser known, the excitement reached its peak in Omaha, Nebraska, where the Pinnacle Bank Championship by Aetna was taking place. The event saw an Argentinian golfer lift his maiden trophy, surprising many in the golf community.

Alejandro Tosti and his emotional speech

The tournament saw history being made as Alejandro Tosti went ahead to claim the win and cement his place in the top 30 on the Korn Ferry Tour points list. Moreover, he was able to register his first win on the Tour, which made the professional emotional as he addressed the audience after the tournament.

The 27-year-old made sure to express his immense gratitude to his family members back home in Argentina as he thanked them for their love and support. “They’re very proud of what I did today. So, I want to thank them for all that they’ve done… for all that they’ve done since I was six years old,” he said, before breaking down in tears mid-sentence, which emanated thunderous applause from onlookers.

Barely holding tears, Tosti went ahead to talk about the succor that his family had showered him with. “I told them that I wanted to play golf when nobody in my family played golf and they have supported me and been with me even in the toughest times,” he continued.

The win in Nebraska propelled the golfer to the 4th position on the Korn Ferry Tour ranking list. The Argentinian pro also secured his first PGA TOUR card, declaring him #tourbound, and earned his membership to the association for the year 2024. A bumpy year for the golfer, he will be looking to carry the momentum from his win to the PGA Tour next season.

Tosti’s performance at the Pinnacle Bank Championship

The 27-year-old golfer finished the tournament at the top with a score of 19-under-par 265. He navigated the tough weather conditions of The Club at Indian Creek and registered his win by scoring a bogey-free 62 (-9) on the final day with seven birdies and an eagle. Moreover, the victory awarded the professional with a winner’s cut of $180,000 along with 500 points on the Tour rankings.

Tosti had a rough year in 2023 with just a solitary top-10 finish coming at the Mexico Open at Vidanta where he scored a 13-under-par 271. His other finishes this season include a T39 at the Sanderson Farms Championship and a T47 at the Wells Fargo Championship. His previous performances make the current win a truly special one.
