You might have always found it weird that big golf names like Tiger Woods always used to start their season overseas rather than in their own country on the PGA Tour. But it was not a surprise anymore when the price related to the appearances was revealed. Woods could land a fee in millions just for an appearance at certain events.

However, according to the authorities of the Qatar Golf Association, Woods does not deserve it. The golf legend has shown tremendous performance since he turned pro in 1996. He hit some obstacles, and walked on the wrong path, and was back on track. Despite his injuries, he did not give up; why does the association feel so?
Is Tiger Woods not worth millions?
Prices were never specific for the appearances made by golfers overseas. However, in the Woods’ case, he used to get $2-$3 million just for appearing at the tournament. Surprisingly, the amount was double what he would receive by winning the game.
But Qatar Golf Association was unhappy with Woods and felt he did not deserve that high fee. After his rough patch started when his father died and was followed by an alleged scandal in 2010, the former no. 1 was losing his spark. Therefore, the association’s president did not feel right to dump that amount of money on Tiger. According to him, he did not deserve a huge amount.

During a press conference in 2013, the president of the Qatar Golf Association, Hassan al Nuaimi, said that Woods demanded $3 million for his appearance, which was way more than the tournament’s prize money of $2.5 million. Paying such a high amount to play at the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters was incorrect. He said, “not worth paying for a tournament of $2.5 million prize money.”

Why would Woods need a million when he is in billions?
The golf legend might not have deserved $3 million as fees back in the 2013 Qatar Masters, but he sure has made himself a billionaire. According to Forbes, the net worth of Woods is around $1 billion, and they estimated his salary to be over $1.7 billion. His salary also includes endorsements from his 27 years of career.
The denial of $3 million fees for appearance would not matter to him anymore, as he is the third known athlete to become a billionaire after LeBron James and Michael Jordan. Woods’ income from golf is less than 10% of his earnings. Endorsements earn a massive amount of money with big brands like Gatorade, Monster Energy, TaylorMade, Rolex, and Nike. He has been associated with Nike since 1996, and they have been the biggest backer.
