A golf world without Tiger Woods is unimaginable. It has been only a few months since he played an official event, and everyone has already started feeling a huge void on the PGA Tour. That is the impression the 15-time major champion has left in the golf community by winning 100+ titles and creating numerous records. Nevertheless, did you know that Woods had once seriously considered quitting the sport, leaving all his legacies and fans behind, to take over another prestigious job?

“…the last thing I expected was for Tiger to announce he wanted to quit golf to join the Navy SEALs.” Steve Williams, Woods’ former longtime caddie, surprised the golf community when he revealed the golfer had plans to join Navy SEALs through his 2015 autobiography, ‘Out of the Rough.’ Notably, the golfer’s decision also “stunned” him, as he explained on the 131st page of his book.

What made Tiger Woods not join Navy SEALs?

Tiger Woods had all the ways to serve his country with the SEALs. Williams explained in his book that the connections his father, who has served in the military, had or the golfer’s popularity would have helped him earn a spot in the Navy.

However, according to the caddie, he was fired after 13 years of working together. Elin Nordegren, the golfer’s fiancee at the time, was part of the reason that stopped him from doing it. “He was engaged to Elin with a wedding planned for the end of the year,” Williams penned it as one of the reasons the G.O.A.T. didn’t quit golf.

Moreover, Williams revealed another reason for him not joining the SEALs. “I’m sure his many multi-million-dollar sponsors would have had something to say about it if he had quit golf,” the Hall of Famer caddie wrote in his 2015 book.

Notably, Woods’ PGA Tour profile shows that he won more than half of the championship titles from the 2003 season. And it would have been impossible to win all of them if not for his then-fiance, Elin Nordegren.

Nordegren might have moved on from Woods’ life after getting a divorce from him. She even had two babies with her current partner, other than the two she had with the golfer. Nevertheless, the former Swedish model still would be an important person in his life, as she is also one of the reasons Woods became the legendary golfer he is now.
