“These guys are the life and soul of the party, but when it comes to golf they’re here to tee it and rip it, and they’re here to win.” This is what the Ripper GC description says on the official website of LIV Golf. The Aussie team is often seen enjoying time with each other on and off the course, being great friends.

Just a few days ago, while practicing for the Greenbrier at The Old White, the entire team, along with their caddies, were seen hitting the shots with Greg Norman. It was their caddie tournament and was an absolute delight to watch. Be it Marc Leishman’s caddie hitting an impressive shot or Cameron Smith’s caddie hitting a disappointing shank, not one moment was a dull one. According to Captain Smith, it is things like these that make the team stand out.

Cameron Smith points out how tightly knit Ripper GC members are

After a successful Saturday round at the LIV Golf Greenbrier, the Ripper GC team is in the lead with a total team score of 36-under. They are one stroke ahead of Smash GC. At the post-round presser, referring to the fun that they were having at the caddie competition, the team was asked if that was something that helped them gel better. To this, Smith replied, “I think I’m biased; I hang out with the boys a lot.”

According to him, his team—consisting of Lucas Herbert, Marc Leishman, and Matt Jones, along with the caddies and a couple of physios—enjoy having a couple of beers and dinner every night. This camaraderie, he believes, strengthens their team dynamic. “That really brings, I think, not only team camaraderie but something else to — it’s like you’re playing for genuinely something other than yourself, rather than just teeing it up for yourself,”  Cameron Smith also pointed out that the other LIV Golf teams do not share the same level of warmth and unity.

The best part he feels about being the captain of the Ripper GC team is that they have each other’s backs, no matter what. It was proven when Smith answered the question about Sam Pinfold’s shank at the caddie tournament. He defended Pinfold by stating that he played extremely well and only had one unlucky shot. Unfortunately, that was the one that the camera ended up capturing. Cameron Smith and Sam Pinfold also did a fun little roleplay at the competition, where Smith was the caddie and Pinfold was the golfer.

“No, we had a lot of fun in that caddie tournament. I think we should do that more often. It was cool,” he concluded. The Ripper GC also has fun traditions for the caddie competition, making the shared time on the golf greens much more memorable!

How does the Ripper GC begin the caddie competition?

As the Ripper GC shared every moment on the official Instagram account, they also shared snippets from the caddie competition hosted on August 15, a day before the Greenbrier was set to begin. In the video, Cameron Smith is seen taking out a beer can from a loaded box of it kept in the cart. He opens one each for Pinfold, Matt Kelly, and the other caddies.

Well, there is a twist to the way they drink. As an inauguration process, they crack the can, make a hole in the body, and drink out of it before going forward. They even captioned it, “Starting the Caddie Comp in true Ripper fashion 🍺🤣”. What do you think about the camaraderie within the Smith led team? Let us know in the comments section below!
