Phil Mickelson is one of the most controversial players in the golf world. The six-time major winner has made tons of records on the field. When he made his decision to move to the new Saudi-backed league, several fans voiced their displeasure. However, he recently spoke kind words about Singapore’s late former Prime Minister and won the hearts of several of his long-lost fans.

What did Phil Mickelson say about Singapore’s late Prime Minister?

Mickelson is well known for giving out controversial statements in most of his interviews. However, this time, he spoke kind words about the late former Prime Minister of Singapore, Lee Kuan Yew. LKY was the Prime Minister of Singapore between 1959 and 1990. He also served as the Secretary-General of the People’s Action Party between 1954 and 1992.

Mickelson has played some tournaments in Singapore in the past when he was part of the PGA Tour. And the interviewer asked him how he felt to be back playing in Singapore, where he has many fans. Without hesitation, Mickelson stated that “Sentosa was a great golf course”. He then talked about how LKY had helped the sovereign island country to grow.

He mentioned everything great that Yew had done for the place and referred to him as “one of the greatest leaders”“I thought he’s done some really great things,” Mickelson said. “to create one of the greatest harbors, to have it be such a clean city, and to create such wealth for all of their citizens…I think he has created a pathway of success for his country,” Mickelson concluded.

Mickelson expressed his views about the strategic alliance

After the recent decision regarding the Thailand event of LIV Golf, players might finally get a chance to earn OWGR points in the tournament. The points are very important for players to appear in major tournaments. And after the announcement about the strategic alliance between the MENA Tour and LIV Golf, golfers might be able to receive ranking points.

Talking about the same, Mickelson said“I think it’s a win on all parts.” According to him, many obstacles tried to stop it from happening. But he said that working with LIV Golf will also be beneficial for the Asian Tour in the future.
