After that, he played at the Junior Players Championship in Jacksonville, where he tied for 11th place. Then in 2019 again he displayed his swinging skills and improved his rank by performing at multiple tournaments. Lamprecht was a runner-up at the Southern Cape Amateur Open and the All Africa Juniors Challenge. He tasted a big team victory at the Junior Golf World Cup.

After that in 2020, Christo took admission into Georgia Tech as a business administration major where he also started playing for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets men’s golf team. This academic golfing career is also highly impressive where he became a finalist for All-American and Fred Haskins Award. In 2021, he finished in the 4th spot at The Spirit International Amateur Golf Championship where he was the captain of the South African team. He was also a semi-finalist for the Ben Hogan Award. Last year he competed at the Arnold Palmer Cup in Switzerland as a part of an international team that defeated Team USA.

Apart from this impressive portfolio, he is also noticeable for his height of 6 ft 8 inches. Owing to that, he can generate up to 200 mph of ball speed. While featuring in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution at Georgia Tech, he said: “I can definitely hit it further than most people.” Apart from golf, he used to play tennis in high school.

Reigning Amateur champion and qualifying for the Open Championship

In 2023, he was named in first-team All-American by the Golf Coaches Association of America. And more importantly, he is the reigning champion of The Amateur. Last month he won The Amateur Championship at Hillside Golf Club in England. This win brought him numerous benefits. Not only Christo earned a spot at this week’s Open Championship but also at next year’s Masters Tournament and US Open. About the big win, Lamprecht said: “I’m over the moon. I haven’t won something big in a long time and it’s one to definitely win for sure. I’m ecstatic. I cannot kind of comprehend my feelings right now.”

It also aided him in rising to the 3rd spot on the world amateur golf rankings. Speaking about the opportunity of playing at the Open Championship, he said at Hillside last month: “It’s amazing to get into The Open. It’s probably the biggest kind of milestone I put on myself this year before I turn pro is just to get myself in a major and get that experience.”

With such an impressive streak and sharp golfing skills, it’s no surprise Lamprecht is doing so well. If he keeps up this performance, then he could definitely become the next big thing in the golf world.
