OWGR: Viktor Hovland Breaks Into Top-3 After Winning the Dubai Desert Classic

2022 might have been the most incredible year Viktor Hovland has ever had in his life. After finishing at T4 at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, the Norwegian has finally won his first DP World Tour title of 2022 at the Dubai Desert Classic. However, that is not the only achievement the 24-year-old has attained this year.

Viktor made a record when he was promoted to no. 5 in the Offical World Golf Rankings. He became the tenth golfer aged under 25 to make it to the Top 5 of OWGR. The record was made after he finished in the Top 5 at the Abu Dhabi event.

However, Hovland seems to continue his streak now since he knows what it is like to be on the top list. He topped his performance at the second DP World Tour event and placed himself at a higher position on the OWGR list. 

Viktor Hovland moved higher on the OWGR list!

After winning the 2022 Dubai Desert Classic, Hovland became the world no.3. He replaced Patrick Cantlay, whose ranking descended to the 4th position. The win at the Classic became his second victory at the DP World Tour events. Victor already had three PGA Tour titles under his name after joining the Tour in 2020. 

Hovland started to play when he was 11. He was ranked at no. 1 in the world amateur rankings when he turned pro. The Norwegian also had the privilege to represent his country at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Viktor also became the first Norwegian to participate in the 2020 Ryder Cup.

Hovland won the Classic after a duel with Richard Bland in the playoffs. Their total score was 12-under par after the final round; Rory McIlroy was tied with the duo. However, he made a mistake at the 18th hole that made his ball end in the watery grave. If McIlroy had won the title, this would have been his third victory at the Classic.
