Spiranac posted a monologue on Twitter and captioned it, “40 seconds is a long time.” Spiranac spoke about issues with the slow play and how she’s seen “paint dry faster” than the final Masters round.

“Slow play is unsportsmanlike and a form of cheating, I don’t understand how this is not fixed yet,” said Spiranac in her video. Nate Lashley, a PGA Tour Pro did not like Spiranac’s opinion and left a not-so-usual comment under her video. “…I don’t think most people are watching these videos to see what she has to say.”

Spiranac did not hit back at Lashley on Twitter but addressed his comments in her podcast.

“Nate Lashley, he’s a PGA Tour player he won at the Rocket Mortgage years ago. There’s been multiple players on the PGA Tour who have come out and said that this is a serious issue, and they need to fix it. So, for Nate Lashley to be honestly quite sexist about it, and to come after me. When this was not that hard of a take. Everyone is in agreement that slow play needs to be fixed, is not okay. And Nate Lashley, probably a slow player, he is probably the problem.”

Spiranac also said that according to the rulebook, a golfer has 40 seconds to hit his shot. Let’s get to know a bit more about the rule.

The 40 seconds rule of (slow) play

In 2018, applicable from 2019, one of the biggest changes to the game of golf was introduced. The sole intention of the rule is to regulate the pace of the game. Encouraging players to play efficiently between shots and holes, rule 5.6 states that “a player should make a stroke in no more than 40 seconds (and usually in less time).”

Spiranac only mentioned what is stated in the book. What is your take on Lashley’s comments against her? What do you think of the slow play?
