Tiger Woods is considered the greatest golfer of all time. With his golfing style and mannerism on the course, he has attracted many people to the otherwise considered ‘boring sport.’ For the same, the former golfer, Paige Spiranac, thinks no other player can have the same impact on the fans as Tiger did!

Spiranac shared her take on who would be the next Tiger Woods on the latest episode, ‘Nightmare Fuel,’ of her podcast ‘Playing a Round with Paige Renee.’ 

“I don’t know if we ever will,” said Paige about how she thinks no one can replace Woods. “I think Tiger is Tiger Woods like he’s just gonna, yeah, there’s there’s never gonna be another Tiger Woods,” she added. 

Spiranac further added, “But you look in other sports you have, you know, like basketball, there’s so many really engaging players that have huge fan bases.” However, according to the former professional golfer, golf lacks in this aspect.

“Does Scottie Scheffler have a huge fan base?” Spiranac further asked, “if will people go out and watch Scottie Scheffler? I don’t know.” 

Impact of Tiger Woods on golf

From his debut as a professional golfer in 1996 to 2009, Tiger has more than 70 wins in PGA Tours events alone. This included 14 of his 15 major championships.

Even with his first-ever Masters Tournament victory, Woods brought a lot of changes to golf. He became the youngest ever to win the Masters and his win had a huge impact as it attracted more diversity to the sport. 

Furthermore, he has the most fan support in the golf world. He hasn’t played an official event in a year but the 36-hole PNC Championship. And according to Golf Digest, the 2021 PNC event saw its largest viewership in the last two decades.

Even with his absence from the sport because of his car accident, Woods ranked first in internet searches. Furthermore, he even won the first prize in the Player Impact Program. PIP is the new initiative taken by the PGA Tour to reward golfers who generate positive interest from the fans.

The impact Woods has had on the golf world during his 25-year career is astonishing. Hence, according to Paige Spiranac, no other golfer could do the same.
