Paige Spiranac thinks Rory McIlroy lacks a natural drive
The former pro golfer addressed the happenings at the Dubai Desert Classic final on the new episode of her podcast, Playing a Round with Paige. And she has an interesting opinion about Rory McIlroy.
Spiranac believes that the controversies and drama drive the world no.1 to give his best and win. “Anytime there’s a big controversy before a tournament, Rory wins, and he backs it up,” she said.

Moreover, she feels McIlroy needs the drama to ignite his naturally absent competitive spirit on the course. “He almost needs that kind of drama to like, get him going to get him competitive to like, get him in that mindset to like to kill and to win,” she added.

What was the Teegate controversy?
The infamous “Teegate” controversy happened at the very start of the Hero Dubai Desert Classic. Patrick Reed approached McIlroy to greet him. But was harshly ignored.
Reed was taken aback by McIlroy’s lack of recognition and playfully threw a tee at him. He felt the 4-time major winner was behaving like a child. While McIlroy had a perfectly good reason to do so. This happened due to a subpoena that the Rolex Series Champion received from the 32-year-old’s lawyers on Christmas eve.

It seems like a strange move for Reed to expect the golf great will acknowledge him after this incident. The situation begs the question, does Patrick Reed have any knowledge of this subpoena? Or is his legal team handling it?
