In a recent Golf Channel segment during the Grass League 2025 Summer Grind, which was held at Goat Hill Park in Oceanside on September 18th, Spiranac opened up about the often hidden emotional cost of pursuing golf at the highest level. Sitting down as both a host of the new league and a former elite competitor, she didn’t hold back. “Golf is such an interesting sport,” she began, “but competitive golf is a completely different animal.” Spiranac then candidly spoke about the “scar tissue and PTSD from playing competitively,” that many players have faced, and something that she also struggled with.
Paige Spiranac then explained the brutal truth — “In junior golf, you’re playing for a full-ride scholarship. In college, you’re representing your university. In pro, you’re playing for your life.” That kind of pressure doesn’t just affect your swing. It seeps into your identity, your self-worth, and your future. She then went on to add that while most “love golf more than anything” a lot of people, including herself, have had to make the choice. “Do I want to give up this dream that I put everything into – blood, sweat, and tears, so many hours of my life, or do I need to get a job that is more financially stable?” Spiranac reflected.

She, too, had to make the choice—to walk away from the dream she’d poured her life into or keep chasing something that was slowly breaking her. Back in 2016, when Spiranac attempted to break into professional golf, the pressure became overwhelming. The mental strain, the constant judgment, and the weight of the unmet expectations took a toll on her. “I felt like a loser and a quitter at the time,” she admitted just a few days ago. It was a painful decision for her, but one that ultimately led her towards a better career.

These moments of honesty from Spiranac are so different from the curated glamor of her usual content and something we don’t usually see. Her words resonated because it’s a reality many athletes face but rarely talk about: the silent burnout, the anxiety, the question of self-worth when the dream doesn’t go as planned. And now, through her new role in The Grass League, Spiranac is not only talking about it, she’s building something better.
