What has brought Scottie Scheffler into the limelight?

Fans fell in love with Scheffler’s golfing abilities ever since they saw him last year at Augusta winning the 2022 Masters Tournament. Currently world no 2, the golfer has also held the top position on the OWGR leaderboard for 35 weeks in his career. Moreover, he also lifted the trophy for the 2023 Players Championship and made tons of new fans with his victory.

Nonetheless, there is no doubt that the golfer is one of the most talented players on the PGA Tour. However, despite all his achievements, he is currently in the news for a pretty unique reason. And it was after a 5-minute long video of the golfer went viral on Twitter. But what was it about?

As it turned out, the player could be seen along with his caddie taking a rather longer time than usual to analyze one of his shots at the tournament. For the record, it was at the par-4 14th, which is pretty famous for having logjams with the entire field ripping at the green. However, here, the group ahead of Scheffler featured Brooks Koepka and Gary Woodland, who allowed the golfer to hit up before finishing putting out.

Not to forget, Scheffler has been in the news for a few more reasons quite recently. And unfortunately, they haven’t been the good ones. As per another video that went viral this month, the golfer could be seen digging soil with his bare hands next to the ball seemingly to make way for the next shot. And notably, he was extremely criticized for his actions leading the fans to even accuse him of allegedly ‘cheating’ during the tournament.

Fans are drawing clear comparisons between Scheffler and other players like Patrick Cantlay and Bryson DeChambeau, who have been in the headlines for similar reasons in the past. Here’s what some of them have to say about it:

There are tons of speculations coming in from the golf community about Scheffler taking nearly 5 minutes to hit the ball. However, a major reason for the rather related pace is that players often refuse to begin their routines before it is finally their turn. And it could easily be avoided if the players were all set to hit as soon as they were up!
