The LIV golfers are not permitted to play on the PGA Tour, but they are still permitted to compete in the season’s major events. However, the LIV stars’ participation is purely contingent on their criteria. Sergio Garcia was not eligible for the second major of the year, unlike many players from competing leagues. The reason for his drop in the world rankings is due to his association with the Saudi-funded league.

Garcia attended the Masters earlier last month, but his performance there was not particularly noteworthy. However, he became one of the most talked-about LIV golfers due to his absence from the PGA Championship. Now that the event is in its last stages, the Spaniard makes headlines as he tries to find an alternate way into the next major.

One of Garcia’s biggest setbacks in his career was undoubtedly his failure to compete in the PGA Championship. The 43-year-old’s failure to qualify for a major tournament was his first since 1999. However, Garcia already has his sights set on atonement, as the U.S. Open is just one month away.

‘You Can’t Blame Them’: After Unfortunate Sergio Garcia News, Legends of LIV Golf Get Defended by Former Caddie

After the Wanamaker Trophy is awarded on Sunday at Oak Hill, all eyes are going to turn towards the next major of the year, the U.S. Open. The third major of the year is scheduled for June 15–18 at Los Angeles Country Club. However, the Northwood Club and Bent Tree in Dallas will host the 13 USGA 36-hole Final Qualifiers on Monday. This event will serve as the road to qualifying for this year’s national championship. A lot of players will be there, competing to find a place in the third major of the year. According to Golf Digest, the onetime major winner is going to be there on the field too.

After his failure to auto-qualify for the PGA Championship, it seems that Garcia has accepted the consequences of joining LIV Golf. The 2017 Green Jacket champion joined LIV Golf last summer for a reported $40,000,000 contract but has since dropped to position 200 in the Official World Golf Ranking. The former Green Jacket winner, however, looks to find a way to book a place at the next major and find some redemption.

Sergio Garcia’s history at major championships

The 43-year-old has participated in 85 major tournaments, including 23 U.S. Open appearances. The Spaniard’s performance in major competitions has been inconsistent, with only one victory—at the 2017 Masters—and many close calls. Twelve top-10 finishes are among the LIV star’s close results. Garcia also finished second in the 2007 Open Championship, almost missing out on the victory.

The Spaniard has a reputation for being a strong ball-striker and has the ability to hit long, straight drives, despite the fact that he has primarily failed at the majors. However, his putting has occasionally been erratic, which has prevented him from better results at the major championships. The former major winner might challenge for the title if he can avoid the costly errors that have dogged him in the past on the greatest stage.

Apart from this, it remains to be seen if the 43-year-old makes it to the U.S. Open.
