Lydia Ko will conclude this year with a bang. No, we are not talking about any of her impressive golf achievements. The Korean-born Kiwi professional golfer is set to tie the knot with her fiancé, Chung Jun. Here’s all you need to know about the bridegroom.

Who is Chung Jun?

The youngest son of Hyundai Card Vice Chairman Chung Tae-young, Chung Jun is reportedly working at Hyundai Motor Group’s subsidiary office in San Francisco. He has studied philosophy and data science from Claremont McKenna College in California. So far, Hyundai Card has declined to confirm the reported marriage, citing Chung’s privacy.

Chung Jun belongs to a family of traditional powerhouses. His father, Chung Tae-young, is the eldest son of Chung Kyung-jin, the founder of Korea’s oldest cram school, Jongno Academy. He is also the son-in-law of Hyundai Motor Honorary Chairman Chung Mong-koo, from whom he inherited his position at Hyundai.

Reports over the marriage were swirling on the internet in the past few weeks. The relationship first came to light when the Ko posted a picture of them together with the caption “soon”. According to industry sources, the wedding ceremony for the to-be couple is set to be held at Myeongdong Cathedral in central Seoul on December 30.

The marriage rumors were put to rest by Ko herself during the pre-tournament press conference at the Ladies Asian Tour event in Indonesia. “I don’t think there will be many changes to my schedule,” Ko said. “I’m really thankful for my fiance and my family who have been super supportive. As much as I want it, they also want me to finish my career well at the time I want to.”

She revealed the nuptials won’t affect her golf schedule. “As a golfer and person, I’m thankful and gives me lots of motivation to work hard when I’m competing and enjoying my time off as well. Getting married is not going to change my schedule, and it’s going to remain the same.”

How did Lydia Ko perform in the golf circuit this year?

The World No.4 has had a stellar season in 2022, claiming six Top 10 finishes already. She emerged victorious at the Gainbridge LPGA at Boca Rio, Florida. This comes after she secured a bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, following up a 2nd place finish at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Ko will take the field at the Ladies Asian Tour (LAT) Series this weekend.
