The year 2023 is turning out to be a charm for the Spanish golfer, Jon Rahm. We are just one month into the year, and three tournaments have been played. Yet, the right-handed golfer has already registered two of them in his bag. Following his win at the Tournament of Champions, he led the scoreboard at the American Express. If you think he stopped here, then you are wrong. Despite not regaining the no. 1 position on the OWGR standings, the 28-year-old could attain a milestone in his career by competing in a nip-and-tuck match with rookie Davis Thompson this week.

Jon Rahm climbs up to rank no. 1 in The FedEx Cup rankings

The Spanish golfer, who has been a dominant force on the tour in recent years, had previously spent a total of 50 weeks inside the top five of the FedEx Cup without reaching the top spot. However, the Twitter post from the PGA Tour Communication revealed that after constant hard work, Rahm finally made it to the top ranking by winning against Thompson, who managed to impress Rahm with his excellent gameplay.

He quickly established himself as a top player, winning his first PGA Tour event in just his second start as a professional at the 2016 Farmers Insurance Open. He followed that up with another win at the 2017 Spanish Open and has since added several more titles to his resume.

Despite his success on the course, the No. 1 spot in the FedEx Cup points table had eluded him until now. He had come close on several occasions, finishing second in the 2017 and 2018 FedEx Cup standings, but was never able to take the top spot. That all changed with his recent win, which propelled him to the No. 1 spot in the FedEx Cup standings. The victory was especially sweet for Rahm, who had been dealing with a difficult stretch of golf in recent months. 2023 seems to be bringing a lot of luck for the golfer.
