John Daly was competing at the Regions Tradition this week, the first major event on the PGA Tour Champions. However, after 36-holes, Daly received a DQ, which meant that he was disqualified from the event. Moreover, Daly was DQd for an incredibly frustrating reason; the 56-year-old forgot to sign his scorecard after his round.

Hence, according to the USGA rules, a player who does not verify his scorecard will be disqualified from the event. This is unfortunately what happened with Daly. Long John was playing solid golf, but a careless error has cost him a good finish. He scored even par with two double bogeys on the 7th and 9th hole. Therefore, his four birdies were neutralized with two double bogeys.

Why John Daly did not sign his scorecard?

While there’s no clear reason as to why Daly didn’t sign it, nothing can be done now. Moreover, he could have been frustrated with two double bogeys and hence submitted his scorecard without a signature. So, according to the rules, the officials disqualified him from the event.

Furthermore, Daly was T4 going into the second round and was just three strokes behind the lead. He was -8 thru 15 holes, but the two double bogeys on the final two holes got him down to -4. Since there are no cuts on the Champions Tour, the entire field gets to play 72 holes heading into the weekend.

But John Daly had some other plans, and sadly we won’t be able to see him play in the remaining 36-holes of the event. Moreover, two golfers, Sandy Lyle and Fred Funk have withdrawn from the event,  possibly due to an injury.

Meanwhile, Steve Stricker continued to lead the event as he carded -4 for the day. He is -11 going into the moving day and has a lead of two strokes. Additionally, Padraig Harrington is right behind with a score of -9 after an impressive -6 for the day.
