There are only two days left for Tulsa’s Southern Hills Golf Club of Tulsa to host the 2022 PGA Championship. As expected of the major championship week, the golf world has nothing but talk about it. While all the news coming from the venue has been making the fans happy, a recent revelation has killed the mood.
A recent Twitter post from the Operations Officer of No Laying Up, Cody McBride, is the reason the golf world is mad at the PGA.

According to the post, every item on the menu at the Southern Hills charges more than the actual price. Water is priced at $6, whereas the beer costs $18.
Ahhhhh okay @PGAChampionship. Gonna be a lot of upset folk in Tulsa next week! pic.twitter.com/A0gkolSWH4

The PGA only allows one unopened bottle of water from outside per ticket and does not allow everyone to take food inside the course. Therefore, the spectators will need to buy some food items or beverages from the stall inside the venue. However, since the prices are higher than average, people will have a hard time buying them.
Justin Thomas and others are upset with the unacceptable costs of the beverages!
Justin Thomas is one of the top golfers who will be playing at the Southern Hills this week. He is a PGA Tour player. Yet, the golfer couldn’t agree with the organization on the way they priced the menu.

JT used his sarcastic side to react to the injustice of the PGA. “$18 for a freakin beer?????? What does it cure cancer or something!!????” JT’s comment was deleted after some time but not before the others took a screenshot and posted it online.
The fans also shared the same opinion as the Tour player.
I feel overcharging for water, a basic human need, should be a criminal offense.

That is just wrong…shame on you PGA

Hell with the beer prices. People can do without beer but the water is different. Robbery.

That’s how expensive it was in Dallas this week as well. Insanity.

All those prices are insane, but $6 for a bottle of water might be the worst. So much for “growing the game”. Maybe a few heat strokes due to lack of water would lower the price.

Many even claimed that it is the same on almost all the events on the Tour. They shared their experience, where they had to spend an unbelievable amount of money on food and beverages.
I attended the ‘96 PGA at Valhalla where multiple first round spectators collapsed due to excessive temperatures. Water was reduced to $1 for the remainder of the event. $6 dollar water is asking for trouble and something I’d expect to see at a Greg Norman event.

I was there for the US Open 2001. 93 and humid every day. Charged $4 for a bottle of water. I must’ve spent $100-$120 on water that week. Just to keep from passing out.
— Wayne Whitlock (@wayne_whitlock) May 15, 2022
I bet I spent over $100 at the US Open there in 2001. Ridiculous heat all week. $4 for bottled water in 2001 was crazy.

Notably, unlike other venues, the pricing of the food and beverages at the Augusta National is way less.
A comparison between the F&B charges at the 2022 PGA Championship and the Masters
The Augusta National event is famous for getting a lot cheaper food and beverage services. In fact, while the water at the PGA costs $6, the water at Masters is priced at just $2. The same goes for beer and other drinks.
Notably, other than White Wine (Chardonnay), no other food or beverages on the Augusta menu are charged more than $5. These differences made the fans point it out in the comments on the post.
Absolutely brutal.

Wild timing on this tweet. I was just asking my family what the prices for a few items at Augusta were. They loved the answers. I’ll do it again with the PGA prices now. pic.twitter.com/sXqoA72f2e
