2022 Genesis Scottish Open: Prize Money Breakdown and Winner’s Payout

There is only a week left for the 150th Open Championship, the fourth and final major of the 2021-22 season, to begin. However, it is not until one of the best fields of the season will battle at the Renaissance Club to win the 2022 Genesis Scottish Open title.

Originally founded in 1972, the 2022 edition tournament began on July 7, Thursday this week. Notably, it is the first time the event has been co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour and the PGA Tour. Therefore, before the historical event gets to its end, let’s flook into what the total purse is and how much the winner will be getting on Sunday

The total purse and other tournament details

The total purse of the Open is $8 million. Notably, 18% of the purse, the standard amount according to the Tour’s prize money distribution chart, will be presented to the champion.

Like every official tournament, the field of the Open will be cut down to the top 65 and its ties after the first two rounds. Moreover, only the players who finish all four rounds can win their share of the entire purse.

Notably, the Renaissance Club in North Berwick, Scotland, has one of the best fields of the entire season. The field includes the Masters champion, Scottie Scheffler, the PGA Championship winner, Justin Thomas, and the U. S. Open champion Matt Fitzpatrick. Additionally, Min Woo Lee, the defending champion, is also part of the field. 

Furthermore, the three LIV Golf players, who acquired a stay on their suspension from the DP World Tour, will also be playing in the event this week. With the presence of such talented players, the golf world will get to enjoy a nail-biting tournament. 

The champion’s payout and other benefits

The champion of the event will be awarded $1,440,000 as prize money, along with other benefits. 

Notably, until last year, the winner used to get the Race to Dubai points. However, since the PGA Tour co-sanctioned the event, the champion will get 500 FedEx points. He will also be rewarded 70 OWGR points. Moreover, he will get a two-plus season exemption on the PGA Tour, berths into the 2023 Masters, PGA Championship, and Sentry Tournament of Champions.
