And not only did he show them off to friends, family, and neighbors, he actually made it to the headlines at a very young age. A throwback post from Lou Stagner’s Instagram handle gives us a glimpse of what’s probably Tiger Woods’ earliest golf accomplishment.

Tiger Woods started turning heads when he turned three

A golf stats pro, Lou Stagner, recently shared a cutout image of a 1981 Golf Digest Article about Tiger Woods. He was about five years old then. The article spoke about what he had achieved a couple of years earlier. Phew!

He shared a quote from the article that read, “Tiger, at 3, recorded a 48 for nine holes.” The article describes him as someone who shoots in the 90s on a regulation course. It mentions his appearance on the Mike Douglas television show, where he was trading quips with Bob Hope.

The article also speaks about Tiger Woods’ golf with his dad Earl Woods and his coach Rudy Duran. Woods had played on regulation courses like Navy Golf, Costa Mesa, and Los Alamitos. It was at Navy Golf, which measures 6750 yards from the back tees, that Woods scored a 48 on nine holes, at the age of 3.

It quotes Duran on Woods claiming that he is beyond exceptional. Looks like he was already called “Tiger” when he was five years old. The man seems to have written his own legacy from as early as he can remember.

Isn’t the golf world impressed by the young Tiger?

Some fans were joking about how they could do the same or maybe even better, while some were quite impressed. There were also skeptics and nostalgic storytellers. Let’s see what the comment section has in store for us.

Is that “hmm” sarcastic, skeptical, or just plain confused? We couldn’t tell.

One fan commented that they had scored a 58 on a par 3 course. They compared it with Woods’ 57 on a par 3 course mentioned in the article. But last we checked, 57 is still better than 58.

Another skeptic turned up with a theory that maybe Woods laid up to 100 yards on every hole. The comment implies that Woods was playing it safe. Well, it sounds unlikely, but who are we to judge?

This user could not accept the child prodigy’s glorious feat and they playfully refused to count the score. Apparently, the score isn’t impressive unless it was from the most difficult tees.

One fan commented they live near Navy Golf, and their elderly neighbors tell them stories of Tiger Woods’ childhood.

One witty fan commented they can achieve Woods’ feat in every nine holes they play. That’s just pure talent.

Well, it makes more sense now how the man is such a legend in the sport. When one has been practicing a sport since the time they learned to walk, it does offer a competitive edge, doesn’t it? What do you think about Woods’ shockingly young start at golf?
