Charley Hoffman stands in support of the fans! The golfer missed out on glory at the WM Phoenix Open just a while back as he lost to Nick Taylor on the second playoff hole. However, that didn’t dampen the mood of the professional, as he expressed praise for the supporters that showed up to the event on Sunday, despite the same fans creating chaos and mayhem on the course on Saturday.

Talking about the same in an interview post-match, he said, “There’s some great fans out here” before going ahead to dub them as a “lasting memory.” Adding on, he said, ” I know there was some criticism yesterday about how the fans acted,” before continuing, “but there was nothing but gracious fans out here today supporting the WM Open here in Phoenix.”

Continuing with his response, the golfer also took to add the instance of Taylor beating him and “watching it on the 18th green,” as a “lasting memory” as well. Moreover, he also took to congratulate the “Thunderbirds” for the “great job” they did in “putting on an amazing event this week” all the while expressing his eagerness to be back the next year.

From the 47-year-old’s words, it seems the followers who attended the event on the last day did not create as much mayhem as they did on Saturday. The chaos that ensued on the third day of play owing to the fans resulted in the gates of the TPC Scottsdale Stadium Course being shut down along with the sales of alcohol being suspended.

There were instances of the members of the audience engaging in various acts on the golf course including a fan making a snow angel on the bunker, someone gliding through the roughs without their shirts on, and the audience making a beer snake of sorts. Regardless, the community seems to have been behaving even when the event saw an exciting finish with Hoffman as the runner-up.

The four-time PGA Tour champ missed out on his fifth victory on the circuit when he scored an even par on the playoff hole at the 18th. He had earlier finished first with Taylor, who came from behind to score a birdie on his final hole to tie with the 2016 Valero Texas Open champ. Nevertheless, with scores of 67-68-64-64 over the four rounds, he managed to rake in a cut of $959,200 from the prize pool.
