The recent Arnold Palmer Invitational has been exciting for the whole golf community, especially for Scottie Scheffler who managed to emerge victorious at the same. However, he wasn’t able to win it alone. Yes, we are talking about the support he received from his caddie and on-course partner, Ted Scott.

Meanwhile, as Scheffler raked in a total of $4 million from the total prize pool of $20 million at the Bay Hill Golf Course, curiosity fell on the reward that his looper receives for the help he dishes out in garnering the same. One can’t, thus, help but wonder how much the bagman of the current world No. 1 makes carrying the bags for the American Pro.

A looper on Tour, as per the typical pay scale, earns 10% of the golfer’s cut for a win while being awarded 7% for a top-10 finish and 5% for the rest. For Scott, who helped the professional come out on top at the recent signature event, he got one-tenth of $4 million, i.e., a total of $400,000. This is almost four times his base salary, which, as per reports, is set at $135,000 per year.

But wait, that’s not all. Last season, in 2023, the world No. 1 was able to set a record with more than $21 million in earnings with his victories and 17 top-10 finishes, including two wins. Thus, as per the scale mentioned earlier, his looper was able to take home a pay of at least a whopping $1.8 million, if not more. However, the fact that Scott had to be persuaded to come out of retirement to caddie for Scheffler makes it more possible that he had to have negotiated a bigger compensation package when carrying the bags for the golfer.

Then what about 2022? Well, the two joined forces in the autumn of 2021, following which the golfer won a total of four tournaments, including a Masters, the following year. Scott has, till the month of April, managed to get an amount of $900,000 owing to the athlete raking in just over $9 million until his first major win.

Interestingly, the bagman had planned to launch a business to teach golf lessons. But, fortunately, the 27-year-old was able to coax the caddie to carry the bags for him following his split with Bubba Watson in 2021.

The two professionals, the golfer, and his caddie, were on-course partners for a total of 15 years. During the same period, Watson and Scott were able to win a total of two Masters Tournaments and 10 PGA Tour events, the last of which came in 2018 at the Travelers Championship. This was exactly one of the reasons why their mutual split in 2021 came as a surprise to many in the community.

“I have no regrets, and I don’t think he does either,” said the golfer, who later on defected to LIV Golf as he continued, “[Scott] has made more money now without me. He needed ten more years.” Adding on, he went ahead to divulge one of the reasons why he took the decision as he disclosed, “I had some struggles this offseason… My wrist, I had a wrist injury all last year. Had some PRP.”

Nevertheless, it appears the plan to separate turned out good for the looper, who is now partnered with the highest-ranked golfer in the world, according to OWGR. Anyhow, one can hope that the two manage to garner more wins in the future, thereby staying on top of the rankings, golf-wise and money-wise!
