The Augusta National announced this year’s Champions Dinner menu on Tuesday to the public. And the golf world couldn’t help but notice the expression on Dustin Johnson when he heard it for the first time. 

A reporter read the menu list for the dinner when Johnson attended the press meet. And his expression while listening to the menu is remarkable. 

“Sounds fantastic to me,” said Johnson after listening to the menu. “I mean, they are all the things that I enjoy,” he added. Moreover, he named Miyazaki Wagyu and Miso Glazed Black Cod as his favorite dishes among them. 

After Ben Hogan suggested it in 1952, the Champions Dinner has been a tradition that the Augusta National follows every year. Only the Masters champions are invited to the dinner. And the previous year’s winner hosts the event. Since Hideki Matsuyama was the winner of the 2021 event, he got to host the dinner this year.

Furthermore, the host of the dinner chooses the menu every year. International champions usually choose the cuisines from their countries. Meanwhile, the Americans try to stick to their regional dishes. Being the first-ever Japanese champion, Matsuyama chose Japanese cuisines for the menu for dinner held on Tuesday.

He chose the Assorted sushi, Yakitori chicken skewers, and Sashimi and Nigiri as the appetizers. Miso Glazed Black Cod was his choice for the first course, whereas Matsuyama chose Miyaki Wagyu as the main course. Moreover, he picked the Japanese Strawberry shortcake as the dessert.
