The OGWR No. golfer Scottie Scheffler has been enjoying an exceptional PGA Tour season this year. Having participated in a total of 9 events, he has managed to drag himself to the top 10 position in 8 of them. Among them are his three wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, THE PLAYERS, and last week, The Masters. However, it is rightly said that in the blink of an eye, the tides can turn, reminding us that greatness and adversity walk hand in hand. During the PLAYERS, a picture of Scheffler went viral where he was sitting 20 yards behind the 14th tee at the TPC Sawgrass with his hat off.

This was before the second round, when he was getting a neck massage by a South African physiotherapist Markus Marais. Although his performance has not deteriorated, the neck pain has been prolonged, and it has affected him in the Masters as well. Will this pain mark an end to his dominant streak? During the practice round of the RBC Heritage at the Harbour Town Golf Links, at a presser, Scottie Scheffler was asked about his win at the Masters and how he has been celebrating.

As the questions gradually moved ahead, he was asked about his neck injury which flared up during the weekend, and how he was currently feeling. To this, he replied that the pain was very similar to the one that had caused him to take a break at the TPC Sawgrass. But this time, he had already known what happened, and so he could feel it before the finals started and take the right measures. Scheffler said, “The same little joint bugged me a touch, but fortunately we were able to get ahead of it this time before it completely locked up on me.”

He even added that on Sunday, he had a rather stressful warmup, because all the other muscles in that area had tightened up because of the joint lock-up in his neck. He wasted no time, nonetheless. He first sensed the pain at home when he was relaxing on the couch. The 2X Masters champion added, “So I got in the shower as quick as I could, got ready, and went straight to my trainer and we started working on it pretty quickly”

He could not get the best warm-up but could feel it turned out to be effective. Although very stressful, it was because of the detailed session that he could feel his heart rate going down before the tee time. And well, as the finale approached, his entire focus was shifted from the neck pain to getting the green jacket! Despite the hurdle, Scheffler did it, and proved that a mere neck injury cannot stop the No. 1 golfer’s domination in the season this year!

Scottie Scheffler accelerated his game after he recorded the second bogey in the front nine during the finale of the Masters. He then made three consecutive birdies which made him stand out. At par, 4 on the 11th he dropped for a moment, but soon saved it on the 12th, and finally closed the Amen’s corner with a birdie, bagging his win at the Augusta National Golf Club. During the same presser where he was asked about his injury, another question was addressed to the champ.

Having won the green jacket last year as well, was the feeling of winning different than the one he had last year? To this, he nodded in affirmation and said, “I think so, yeah.” For him, his second win was very special since according to him, the first win is merely just a part of ‘validation’. It is truly in repeating the feat of victory that gives the actual satisfaction, which he has finally tasted! But well, there are a lot many events left for the season. Stay tuned to follow the journey of Scottie Scheffler this season!
